Mangel Halto rewards early risers with 20-25 metre visibility, regular eagle ray sightings and calm, warm water year-round. Certain months are significantly better than others -- here is the complete seasonal breakdown.

Peak Season: December to April

The dry season brings the best conditions to Mangel Halto. Trade winds steady from the north-east keep the sheltered southern bay glassy calm. Visibility regularly reaches 20-25 metres, and water temperatures hold between 26-28°C. Eagle ray sightings peak during this period, often in groups of three to five animals gliding over the seagrass flats at 7-10 AM.

Shoulder Season: May and November

These transitional months offer excellent value. Crowds thin noticeably while the water remains warm (27-29°C) and clear. Visibility averages 15-20 metres. Sea turtle activity remains high through May as the nesting season approaches.

Rainy Season: June to October

Aruba sits south of the hurricane belt so serious storms are rare. Mangel Halto's sheltered position means it handles rough conditions better than exposed spots. Visibility drops to 10-18 metres -- still acceptable. Water temperatures peak at 29-30°C.

Best Time of Day

Arrive between 7:00 and 9:30 AM. Eagle rays and sea turtles are most active in cool morning water. The low sun angle creates spectacular underwater light, and the car park and entry are not yet crowded. By 11 AM the site fills with day-trippers.

What to Bring

  • Reef-safe mineral sunscreen -- chemical sunscreen bleaches the coral
  • Water shoes -- the rocky left entry requires foot protection
  • Underwater camera -- eagle rays deserve documentation
  • Full snorkel kit -- no rentals on-site
  • Water and snacks -- zero facilities at the beach
